Ferries run frequently between the ports of Marigot Bay, St Martin and Blowing Point, Anguilla. No reservations are necessary. Between 7:30 am and 9 pm an Anguilla ferry leaves Blowing Point every half hour, while the 20-minute return voyages from Marigot commence at 8 am and leave every half hour until 10 pm. The cost of the ferry from St. Martin to Anguilla is US $15.00 (including US$3 departure tax) per person per way. The fare of the last ferry is US$25 (including US$3 departure tax) per person per way.
Getting around
By Car
As the island’s resorts, beaches and restaurants are quite spread out, it is more convenient and more economical to rent a car. If you comfortable with left hand drive and bumpy roads, it is your best bet for maximum mobility. The several car rental agencies on the island issue temporary local licence (valid for 3 months) at a one-time fee of US$20. You can also get a license at police headquarters in the island’s administrative centre, The Valley, and at ports of entry. You will need to present a valid driver’s licence from your home country.
Most visitors take a cab from the airport to their hotel and arrange, free of charge, for the car rental agency to deliver the car to the hotel. Avis (at Airport Road, Tel: 264/497-2642), Budget (at Airport Road, 264/497-5871), Connor’s (at Blowing Point, Tel: 264/497-6433) and Triple K Car Rental (at Airport Road, Tel: 264/497-5934) all offer sedan and four wheel drive vehicles. Rates are about US$45 to $US55 per day, plus insurance.
By Taxis
Taxis are fairly expensive. Taxi rates are regulated by the government and there are fixed fares from point to point. Posted rates are for one or two people; each additional passenger adds US$3 to the total. You will find taxis at the Blowing Point ferry landing and at the airport. You will need to call them to pick you up from hotels and restaurants. Typical taxi fares ranges from US$18 to US$22 and most rides takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
By Bikes and Scooters
Bikes are available from US$10 per day and scooters from about US$20 per day from A&S Scooter Rentals (at The Valley, Tel: 264/497-8803), Exotic Plus (at The Valley, Tel: 264/497-8528) and Flambayo Health Depot.
